The new year often comes with a bit of self-reflection that leads many people to make resolutions. They resolve to change for the better, to get fit, to eat healthier, and so on. That’s alright, I heard them all at the start of this year and the previous years. But it’s already three weeks in and oh well…
How are your resolutions doing? Are they still alive? I’m curious, how many did you have? And how many of them have been left behind by the bustle of life or the new year?
I’m glad we didn’t have to wait until the end of January to do this, but can we take a step back and review those resolutions? Come on, child, let’s start by removing those drastic measures you put on that list. Yes, the ones that are so hard to do. Now, I’m not saying they are impossible… I’m just saying there are better ways of going about life-changing resolutions without them being drastic. Measured, conscious, slow changes actually work better than making drastic changes, unless you are:
- An extremely motivated or disciplined person
- In a life-threatening situation that needs immediate action
- Ready to face the consequences of your actions
- Supported by a professional (life coach, therapist, psychologist, etc.)
Whatever your motive behind the new year resolutions, just take it easy on yourself. I know the theme of the year is "no gree for anybody" but no go do pass your yourself and your power. All in all, making resolutions is not about them being perfect or drastic. It's about being realistic and consistent with your efforts and actions.
So, how do you want to remember this year? As the year you gave up on your resolutions, like you did last year when you stopped going to the gym after two weeks, or the year before when you ate a whole cake on January 22nd? Or as the year you achieved them, like you always dreamed of doing, and felt proud and happy with yourself?
