A Good Day to Die Young

Its normal, quite normal to fawn over the problems of the day, the week, the month, the year even sometimes the life I've lived. I forget sometimes that life is always in balance. A measure of good for a measure of evil. Its so easy to give in to my pessimistic nature, to look at the dark side. The sense of satisfactory unsatisfaction that comes with the thoughts of I should have done better. I could have followed a different path, and perhaps, just perhaps, the outcome would be marginally different. Or an optimistic self satisfaction of I've done all I could and couldn't have done it better.

At the same time, what if things were different, circumstances different, what would I have done.? I think about how humans are so rooted in their ways that the road less taken is less taken because I would rather have it just the way I like it without second thoughts on possible alternatives or a different means resulting in different outcomes. I love thinking but I am also a human, rooted in my ways and patterns of thought that alternatives seem like putting my eggs in different baskets.

Its still a young life, lots of roads not taken. I'll dare you to be different, find those alternatives and stop thinking. Start doing, you never know or do you? With all those thoughts swirling in that big beautiful head of yours. Take a risk, no, take risks. If it turns out then awesome, if it doesn't, no regrets. And always remember, Everyday is a good day to die young. Why not live life then?

These Paths

I'll sit still, listen, while you tell me a story

A foreverland
A happily ever after
A smile that never fades
A heart protected so it never breaks

Of undying love
Of unbroken hearts
Of remembered promises
Of care and affectionate words

This was what we thought
This was how we thought
This was the love we wanted
This was the love we craved

An uncertain future with faith
A hand to hold when all was well
And when the world burnt around them
A shoulder to cry on, a pillar to rest

A utopia, with just these imperfect two
A paradise meant for me and you
A garden where the rivers run through
Eden, your place, my place, our place

It's all gone now, or most of it
The winds came with visions
The visions came with dreams
And as new dreams come, old ones are left behind

Old ones carefully forgotten but not gone
We shuffle past them wishing not to remember
For whichever dream we follow, whatever path we take
We'll always hurt someone we love dearly

Which shall we leave behind, my love?

Pay me in Attention

It's lonely here, it's always been. Keeping to myself was one of the many talents I'd acquired over time; being ignored seemed like something I could do without even having to think twice. Life was good till I started learning more about myself and how my desperate need to be a chameleon on the wall was just a loud cry for help to be noticed.

It all started when I would come over to your place and you would seat across me, phone in hand, almost unaware of my presence, a smile plastered on your face, a chuckle would escape your lips almost every minute like clockwork while I tried to drag you into a conversation. It was too much work and effort to tell you to put your phone down which would usually result in "hold on a second". I had learnt to ignore it. Your phone in hand, head in phone, while we talked became a routine. It was even worse when I wasn't there and I had to listen to you talk about your Facebook posts and how it was so funny when I really wanted to talk...

Go on, judge me for being selfish and not wanting to listen, you hypocrite!

Our habits, these habits, cost us a chance to really listen to each other. Listen to our voices to hear the strains of the day in the intonations as they rose and fell or to see the wrinkles on our faces that the stress of each day brought. You'd never know now, would you? I wonder how many of those chats you remember when you think about me, I wonder if you'll ever know what was going through my mind while I sat across you or why I needed to see you so urgently that I came to your house right after my classes. Was it even a need to see you? Or was my brain just wired so that being with you would make my day less strenuous and somehow your lack of attention made the strain heavier. Your chats, games and social media would still be there long after I'm gone, just the way you like it.

I just needed your time, no matter how small, I won't be here long.
Would you pay me?
If you would, pay me in attention.

Hearts do Heal Around Here (A Poem)

Hearts do heal around here
I see your heart's aching
For care, love and attention
I know it's been tossed and turned
Inside out, used like a rag doll,
Beaten like a defeated pinata,
It's almost still, it's beat a faint slow rhythm like dull footsteps on an asphalt road

Hearts do heal around here
I feel the ache, the wants, the needs
I feel the pain, the hurt, the aggression
A fire deep within burning at its lowest
Watered down with empty promises, grand thoughts
And exotic dreams of loves romanticism.

Hearts do heal around here
Be still now child, here's the needle, the syringe and the drug
Get lost
Not in love's tale sung by cupid as he floats above your window sill,
Not in the pictures you glide through of couples together with their body language screaming goals
Not in the fruit forbidden because you're heart, no longer beating flesh but ice cold stone
Not in the sweet words painted by friends who say a broken heart can only be healed with time.

Hearts do heal around here
Get lost
In yourself, build an empire fit for a king like you, a special palace fit for a queen only
In books, in the words of mentors long gone with wisdom for the future years
In ideas which you will make come through by sheer will
In Him, who made you out of dust and breathed life and love into your beautiful heart
Get lost in you

Hearts do heal around here
If you showed to you a little care

Hearts do Break Around Here (A Poem)

Hearts do break around here
I've seen them littered on the floor
Tired flesh, drained of emotions
Devoid of love, without the flow of blood

Hearts do break around here
Icy and cold, the glass and stoned
Shattered into a millions shards
With their screams never heard, stories untold

Hearts do break around here
The proud, the meek, finding what they seek
Chasing endlessly, till love is found
Held on too tight and dropped like a ball

Hearts do break around here
The guarded and the unguarded
Emotional and emotionless
Wrung out to dry like clothes in the sun

Hearts do break around here
I've kept mine in a hole in fear
Will it break? Will it tear?
Like glass or like paper being ripped to shreds

Hearts do break around here
I'll give an excuse and say mine was broken first
